For my first time fishing the Little Juniata, I stayed at the Greene Hills Campground. One or two points worth mentioning. It's quiet...except for the trains…
The camp office. Not the trailer but the shed to the right of the 5th wheel. Not like the State Parks I'm accustomed to but it works. Everyone here is pleasant…
For only the 4th time in my 50 or so years of fishing, I hired a guide. I contacted Juniata Troutfitters and Adam (pictured above) showed me the ropes for a…
He did all the stuff a guide is supposed to do but it felt more like he was friend on the water. I asked him to carry a rod and fish along with me so it felt…
And, yeah, we caught a few fish. Nothing really big but big fish is not what I require. A fish now and then and I'm happy.
For me, this is big water. According to Adam this is, inspite of the rains last weekend, low water. Wow...wonder if I even want to see it when it's rippin.
Everything was under water. Nymphing all day. I saw a rise or two but nothing that would cause me to throw a dry.
I can only imagine what this place would look like in a sulphur hatch.
Only got browns. I expected a rainbow or two but that didn't happen. Not disappointed at all and I'm just as happy with browns.
I ventured a short distance in the Gorge. Water looks fishy doesn't it? Well, it is. Caught a few and lost a few in these runs.
Yup, like this one. These fish are healthy. Did I mention that this is not a stocked stream? It is regulated as an all tackle, catch and release.
Got a pretty nice fish from this run. These deep runs have to hold a bunch of trout.
The fins on these fish are perfect and beautiful, unlike some of the concrete trout I've caught.
It seems like the entire stream is one beautiful stretch after another and I have to believe there are bunches of fish everywhere.
Inbetween the riffles there are flat pools.(see above the riffles). I bet those light up during a hatch.
My second day fishing I wanted to fish the first trestle in the Gorge but a guide and his clients beat me to it. That was OK cause I hit a run right where I was…
I'll have to hone my swift water tactics. I lost too many fish in the fast water. This is one that didn't get off.
Again, more beautiful water. Why did I wait so long to fish this stream?????
On this trip I was fortunate to have overcast days so the fish were active most of the day. Fishing solo doesn't allow me to fish into dark hours so I can only…
The water was just off color enough to make fishing perfect.
